Selective laser melting of novel 7075 aluminum powders with internally dispersed TiC nanoparticles

7075 aluminum alloy (AA7075) has been extensively used in the aerospace and defense industries owing to its supreme mechanical performance. As a promising platform fabricate metallic components with complex structures, selective laser melting (SLM) successful manufacturing alloys such as Al-Si-Mg. However, high-strength AA7075 is difficult be manufactured by SLM due tendencies toward hot cracking elemental vaporization. Here, specially designed powders internally dispersed TiC nanoparticles are produced gas atomization. Through parameter optimization, novel powder successfully printed form dense parts homogenous microstructures containing equiaxial grains, delivering tensile strength of up 550 MPa ductility over 6.5%. After heat treatment, further increased approximately 650 MPa. play crucial role refine grains while eliminating cracks.
